The other day, a mate popped over, and we got chatting about how the cost of living in New Zealand is really starting to bite, especially when it comes to picking up the basics. She was blown away when I told her how much less I was paying for some things compared to her. That’s when I realised heaps of people don’t know about the handy money-saving trick called “price match.”
New Zealand might have a small market, but there’s some pretty fierce competition between businesses. To stop customers from heading to the competition, loads of stores now offer price match policies. So today, I’ll give you the lowdown on how price matching works in NZ and which stores are in on it.
What’s a Price Match Guarantee?
If you’re out shopping and spot something you want, but find it cheaper somewhere else – either online or at another store – you can take that lower price to the shop you’re in and ask for a price match.
Most places will honour the lower price, and some might even chuck in an extra discount. It’s an easy way to save some cash without much effort! Pretty good, aye?
Which Stores Offer Price Matching?
Not every store does price matching, and those that do have their own set of rules. So, it’s a smart move to check ahead which places have a price match policy before you hit the shops.
Noel Leeming Price Match

If you’re keen to use Noel Leeming’s price match, you’ll need to ask for it at the time you’re making your purchase, and the competitor’s price has to still be valid during their promotion. You’ll also need to bring proof, like a flyer, quote, or a screenshot of the competitor’s website that shows the price and date. After that, just head into a Noel Leeming store to check if they’ll match it.
The product has to be brand new and the same brand, model, and colour. Plus, it needs to be in stock at both Noel Leeming and the competitor’s store. If you manage to get a price match, Noel Leeming will not only match the price but also give you Fly Buys points.
Exclusions:
Price matching doesn’t apply to things like insurance claims, third-party redemption programs, financial products or services, limited edition items, clearance sales, local event specials (like home shows), trade quotes, stock liquidations, bulk buys, or parallel imports.
Also, you can’t combine price matching with other offers like gifts or finance deals, and member-exclusive prices (like Supergold, BYOD, Farmlands) don’t count.
Warehouse Price Match

To get a price match at The Warehouse, you’ll need to show proof of the competitor’s current advertised price, like a flyer, quote, newspaper ad, or a website screenshot. Make sure it’s up-to-date and has the date on it. If you want a refund, you can also use the original receipt. You’ve got 7 days from the competitor’s ad to ask for a price match, and both The Warehouse and the competitor need to have the item in stock at the time.
The item must be the same model, in its original packaging, and be a standard stocked product from a New Zealand retailer. Groceries can only be price matched in-store, not online. For non-grocery items, online price matching needs the same barcode, pricing valid within 7 days, and matching shipping costs. The item must be shipped from within New Zealand.
Price matching also covers back-to-school uniform packs and parallel-imported fragrances.
Exclusions:
Price matching doesn’t apply to third-party sellers, baby food and formula, gift cards, POSvA cards, vouchers, phone cards, stamps, daily deal websites, auction sites, overseas retailers, bulk buys (more than 10 items), stock liquidations, clearance products, limited quantity items, store opening specials (whether from The Warehouse or the competitor), direct purchases from suppliers, or most parallel-imported products.
Mitre 10 Price Match Policy

If you spot the same product for a cheaper price at another local store, Mitre 10 won’t just match it—they’ll beat it by 15%. All you’ve got to do is show proof of the competitor’s price, like a recent catalog or a screenshot of their website. This applies to both in-store and online buys, but you’ve got to ask for the price match either when you buy it or within 7 days.
The product has to be exactly the same as what Mitre 10 sells, including the brand, model, and colour, and it needs to be brand new and in its original packaging. Both Mitre 10 and the competitor need to have the item in stock. For online price matches with delivery, shipping costs will be added separately.
Exclusions:
Price matching doesn’t cover trade quotes, special orders, clearance items, or bulk buys. It also excludes products with installation services, like heat pumps that come with installation. Bulk buys, custom quotes, and competitor promotions don’t count either. Misprints, limited-time promotions, clearance items, and parallel imports are also out of the picture.
Harvey Norman Price Match

Harvey Norman will match the price of an identical product sold by another New Zealand store, whether in-store or online, either at the time of purchase or within 7 days. The product has to be the same brand, model, and colour as what Harvey Norman stocks, and it needs to be new and in its original packaging. You’ll need to provide proof of the competitor’s price, like an ad copy or a screenshot, and the price has to include GST and all the related fees.
Exclusions:
Price matching doesn’t apply to Miele appliances, Apple products, Chromebooks, gaming consoles, or mobile phones. Prices exclusive to members, trade, education, commercial rates, or insurance quotes are also excluded. Display items, demos, clearance stock, limited quantities, and second-hand goods aren’t eligible either. Promotions, gift cards, installation costs, and bundled offers don’t count as well.
Chemist Warehouse Price Match

If you find the same product at a lower price from a registered New Zealand pharmacy or retailer, Chemist Warehouse will not only match it but also give you an extra 10% off the difference. You can price match up to three units of the same product per transaction, and some items like prescription meds might have stricter limits. The product has to be identical to what the competitor is selling, including the packaging.
For in-store price matching, you’ll need to show proof of the competitor’s price, and the staff might double-check with the competitor. For online price matching, you need to provide the product link and your order number. The request has to be made within 24 hours of placing your order, and if approved, you’ll get a refund for the price difference.
Exclusions:
Price matching doesn’t apply to international orders or online-only deals. It also doesn’t cover out-of-stock items, products nearing expiry, clearance or discontinued items. Promotions like “buy one, get one free” or “2 for $10” are excluded. Click & Collect orders can’t be price matched online, but you can get a refund and process it in-store.
PB Tech Price Match

PB Care has a 30-day price protection policy, so if the product you bought drops in price within 30 days, you can ask for a refund of the difference. If you find the product cheaper elsewhere, you can fill out a price match form, and PB Tech will either match or beat the price.
The product must be exactly the same as what PB Tech stocks, brand new, and in stock at the time of the request. It also can’t be shipped directly from a distributor, and it has to be located within New Zealand.
Exclusions:
Price matching doesn’t apply to clearance items. PB Tech has the final say on whether a price match request will be accepted.
Bunnings Price Match

If you find the same product in stock at a competitor for a lower price (including GST and delivery fees), and it’s available for same-day delivery or pickup, Bunnings will beat that price by 15%.
Exclusions:
Price matching doesn’t cover trade quotes, stock liquidations, or bulk commercial purchases.
JB Hi-Fi Price Match

JB Hi-Fi will match the price of any identical product from a competitor’s store at the time of purchase—it’s part of their everyday promise. However, price matching is only available in-store, not online. The product must be in stock at both JB Hi-Fi and the competitor, and the price needs to include GST and all costs, like delivery.
Exclusions:
Price matching doesn’t apply to duty-free items, cashback offers, loyalty points, gifts, bundled promotions, coupons, gift card deals, grey market or direct-import products, commercial orders, ad errors, subscription prices, clearance, or limited stock. It also doesn’t cover services, financial products, delivery fees, or extra charges, and can’t be used with member prices or other promotions.
Baby on the Move Price Match

Baby on the Move does offer price matching, but it depends on the store you visit and the product you’re after. You’ll need to fill out a form with the product name, brand, price (whether you’re buying or renting), and supplier info. The product being matched has to be brand new, in perfect condition, and identical to what Baby on the Move sells. Price matching only applies to New Zealand-based websites and retailers.
Exclusions:
Price matching doesn’t apply to auction sites or private sellers. Shipping costs aren’t included, and standard shipping rates still apply. You also can’t combine price matching with other discounts or promos, and it doesn’t apply to cashback, vouchers, or gift card deals. Baby on the Move reserves the right to turn down any price match request without needing to explain why. Prices can change daily, so it’s best to move quickly.
Heathcote Appliances Price Match

If you want to claim a price match at Heathcote Appliances, you’ll need to do it within 7 days of the competitor’s ad, and both Heathcote and the competitor need to have the product in stock. The item must be brand new, with the exact same packaging, brand, and model. Price matching is only available for in-stock products from other New Zealand appliance retailers, and the competitor’s price has to be lower than Heathcote’s.
Exclusions:
Price matching doesn’t apply to phones, Apple products, commercial or insurance quotes, limited stock items, clearance, discontinued products, display models, parallel imports, auction sites, or private sellers. You also can’t combine price matching with other promos, installation services, delivery discounts, or cashback offers. Bulk discounts and member pricing aren’t included either.
Baby Bunting Price Match

If you find the same in-stock product (including shipping) for a lower price at a competitor, Baby Bunting will not only match it but beat it by 5%. This applies to both in-store and online buys. If you’re buying online, you’ll need to fill out a form, and the customer service team will be in touch. Or, just pop into your local store and the staff will help you out.
Price matching covers all identical Baby Bunting products, including those on sale, as long as the competitor has the item in stock in New Zealand and can provide same-day delivery or pickup. The item must be priced at $50 or more.
Exclusions:
Items under $50, clearance, or liquidation products are excluded. Price matching doesn’t apply to cashback offers, vouchers, or gift card deals. Competitor services (like installation, rental, or cleaning) aren’t covered either. Verbal or written quotes, promo gifts, and already bought items aren’t eligible. You also can’t use price matching with Baby Bunting’s family rewards program, member pricing, overseas shipping, commercial orders, second-hand items, or Baby Bunting-exclusive products.
Conclusion
To make the most of price matching, make sure the product is identical to the competitor’s in brand, model, and specs, and that it’s brand new and in its original packaging. You’ll also need to show proof of the competitor’s price and check that it’s still valid.
Remember, price matching usually doesn’t cover clearance or limited-stock items, bulk buys, or products that come with extra services like installation. Most importantly, don’t leave it too late—many stores require you to ask for a price match within 7 days of buying. Lastly, price matching can’t usually be combined with promotions or member discounts, so it’s worth checking the store’s policy before you make a move.
